Hi everyone! I'm hungry, so let's talk about mangoes!
Some people are lucky enough to live amongst the mangoes and can literally just pluck them from a tree. Mangoes are widely considered by most people to be the king of all fruit as well as the fruit of the Gods. And frankly I understand why!!!
Welcome to Miyazaki prefecture an area that's famous for having the greatest tasting mangoes you've ever seen. Incidentally, they are also the most expensive mangoes you will perhaps ever taste. As in 2017 a pair of Miyazaki mangoes were auctioned off for a stunning $3,600 US dollars.
So why are these delicious fruits so special ?
Well don't take my word for it, but some sources claim that aside from being generally tasty, the Miyazaki mangoes can actually help fight cancer. No wonder one of these magic fruits sold for 400,000 yen equivalent to 4,000 US Dollars last year. And regularly sell at retail shops and supermarkets at prices more than 200 in Tokyo.
In fact, these fruits are so expensive that I would suggest just eating the skin of the mango, which causes stunning 30 dollars. Man!!! I could never afford such an expensive fruit. The Taiyo no tamago mangoes are rare because they are grown only in the Miyazaki prefecture of Japan, which has a near tropical climate reminiscent of India with high temperatures and heavy rainfall, which combine to form the ideal mango growing conditions.
Known as the Rolls-Royce or Kobe beef of mangoes and one of the reasons for their High Cost of the fruit is their uniquely red color. I never knew mangoes could be red. I remember my Japanese Professor telling me about this and he was so happy about it.
It looks like a dragon egg and they look quite pretty. Man I wish they'd have invented something like smell-o-vision so we could get an idea of the sweetness and the scent blessed are the people who get to taste this fruit from the Sun God. I really don't like the fact that this mango looks too perfect.
Honestly, it just makes me want to spend all my money on this tasty fruit, which is known as the most expensive mango in the world. The Tayo no tamago. This literally translates as the egg and the sun because these mangoes are flaming red and their shape looks like a dinosaur egg.
They come in small medium and large sizes, however, all Tayo no tamago mangoes must be over 350 grams, contain 15 percent more sugar than regular mangoes and more than 50 percent of the skin must be red.
Although 350 grams of mango doesn't seemlike it would be enough to justify the cost. We should remind you that even if some mangoes grown away as much as five pounds. It's the taste that's the most important.
So how do you grow this thousand dollar mango?
Who said money doesn't grow on trees these Tayo no tamago mangoes are grown in tightly climate regulated vinyl greenhouses. For Optimum productivity, temperatures are kept at 20 degrees Celsius throughout the day with dozens of mango cultivators in different greenhouses to cater to even the most unique palette mango farmers. Use a special technique to make these mangoes even bigger and juicier. They clip away about 80 percent of all the mangoes from each tree to make sure that all the water and nutrients go into fewer fruits. This means that one tree will only produce about 50 fruits in decades. But those 50 fruits will be absolutely phenomenal.
When they're ready for harvesting, they fall gently into Nets, hung around the tree which gives them uniform sunshine and protects them from insect and blemish damage. They are then packed in the best and most beautiful boxes like a treasure. If for some reason the farmers don't sell the fruit on time, they get depressed, because the storage life of these mangoes is not great.
Japan is a gift-giving culture, during special occasions, meetings, business deals and visits, the Japanese love to give tokens of appreciation. And to show up empty-handed in these situations, is considered bad etiquette. These high-priced mangoes are purchased by companies to give to their Prime clients as gifts of appreciation for their business. The five thousand dollar mango package not only strengthens client loyalty but can also generate hundreds of thousands of extra orders from the client.
Now all of a sudden, I keep thinking about the movie 300 when the mango is born. It is inspected and if not worthy the mango will be discarded much like those poor Spartan babies who actually buys these mangoes. It's important to understand that like most really expensive fruit or food in Japan, the high price is typically a gesture of appreciation to the farmers for their passion and dedication. I've never seen mangoes grow on such short trees before.
Well some critics think That this over hyped fruit that once you pay a lot of money for something your brain will try to convince you that it's the best in the world. Like one time I spent five dollars on a bottle of water at a hotel and I had to convince myself that it was the best water in the world, just to justify the price.
The reason why these mangoes are very expensive is because mangoes don't really grow in Japan. Unlike in many other tropical countries but this doesn't mean that the Taiyo no tamago mangoes are just hype. It literally is the most delicious mango I've ever tasted. And its flavor can be described as a pure sweet firmness with just a hint of tanginess.
It is firm and faintly reminiscent of a tasty Apple. One funny thing about these mangoes is that they literally come with an instruction manual on how to cut them. You can even say that cutting this mango is like becoming a mango surgeon who knows how and where to cut.
Every time you lose a drop of the delicious juice when cutting you're basically losing a hundred yen. Once cut it looks like a mango grenade and I promise that if these mangoes increase the human lifespan then I will definitely purchase them at two thousand dollars and so God please bless me with money.
And there is actually some reason to believe that they could because the Taiyo no tamago is packed with antioxidants, contains beta-carotene and folic acid. They are great for women with weak eyesight and reduced vision and good in preventing night blindness and dry eyes. And like I mentioned before, there's also rumors about them combating cancer and acne. So why not take a chance on these tasty fruits. I promise it'll be worth the cost.
